The new year is here and it often inspires us to make resolutions. We here at Watch Us Grow All Purpose Plant Food suggest Gardening, whether it be Vegetable Gardening , Flower Gardening or whatever interests you, it may be the most rewarding resolution you have ever made.
Did you know that the National Gardening Association estimated that 19 percent more people grew veggies in 2009 than in 2008?
Knowing exactly why this is may not be that difficult for many of us to understand. There is just something very satisfying about planting, caring for,and then harvesting your own food.
For those of you that have made this resolution for 2010, we will offer some simple tips to help you be successful.
First, it’s not a bad idea to start small in your first year, this will help keep you from becoming overwhelmed with tasks like weeding .You can expand your gardens as you become more experienced and confident. Choose the location of your garden, be mindful that it should receive at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day, this will give your plants enough to grow to their full potential. Also make sure the spot you choose has good drainage, you don’t want to be sitting in a pool of water after a rain. You want a soil that will drain nicely, any chance you get add composted material.
Next you will want to choose what to grow, choose what you like to eat.
The following is a short list of veggies that are easy to grow.
GREEN BEANS- bush type or climbers use some type of trellis for the climbers.
TOMATOES- to many types to list. Talk to your local Garden Center folks , they will be happy to assist you in choosing the variety that will work best for you.
CUCUMBERS- again ask your local Garden Center folks.
RADISHES
ZUCCHINI
CARROTS
SALAD GREENS (Swiss Chard, Lettuce, endive, watercress)
All of the veggies you choose for your garden will need to be fed throughout the growing season, foliar feeding (feeding through the leaves) is by far the most efficient way to supply your plants with the nutrients they need to grow to their full potential. Watch Us Grow All Purpose Liquid Plant Food is the product that will give your plants all they need.
